Be Still

My favorite Bible verse is Psalms 46:10…Be Still, and Know that I am God. It reminds me I am not in control and to trust that any situation will be handled.

Have you ever had that moment when you needed that reminder? I can think of countless moments as a leader when this verse saved me from firing off that unprofessional email or saying the wrong thing when a colleague said something condescending. I will never forget the time I encouraged an upset employee to “Be Still”. I did not say it that way, but ultimately the employee did not take my encouragement and made a rash decision. Sometimes, when we try to fight, it does not end well.

Have you ever received disapproval from an employee via email or during a meeting? You think to yourself….How dare they say that to me? You want to put them in their place.

BUT……….

These are the critical moments when your Character is tested and you need the reminder to “Stop” and let God take over. What does this mean? It means his strength is in us and we are better to let him work with our silence.

I actually taught this principle to my leadership team. I had one leader that was quick to get fired up and what came next was not the most flattering. She began modeling this by calling me to vent or talk through situations that fired her up and I reminded her that sometimes there is no reaction required. It was amazing to watch the transition and how frustrations became opportunities instead of emergencies or outbursts.

How will you use this to better yourself and MASTER the moments that frustrate, aggravate, insult and even make you mad?
